I must confess that I have been bitten. The werewolf did not do it. The vampire is not the one guilty. It was someone else. Someone I met long ago. Someone that touched the fabric of my clothes as the oil dripped from my forehead. I recall the anointing.
I recall the power of God grabbing a hold of my mind and changing my thoughts. I was going in one direction, not the group, and found another. I changed the way I dressed. I changed the way I spoke. I changed the way I viewed life. For the first time I viewed life from an eternal perspective at not local.
No one told me to change. The Holy Spirit told me to change. I chose to be obedient. He chose to continue speaking. Disobedience closes the mouth of God and like the children of Israel you will wander aimlessly without direction and live in confusion.
Some believers, so called, said to me it does not take all that. You are being legalistic. Those same believers, so called, have cheated on their wives, lost their jobs due to drunkenness and have molested their children. I hear the words previously spoken “it does not take all that.” Really!!
Why would God in his complete awesomeness give us the Holy Spirit if he wanted us to continue living the way we lived without him? Why did he send his only Son? For me to say “it does not take all that?”
I assure you, it takes everything we have to live holy.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Matthew 7:22- 24

Are you guilty of blaming everything on your mental status? ADD? ADHD? DEPRESSION? Why does the media push mental disorder as the cause of every tragic event? A man kills his girlfriend in a fit of rage and immediately the reason is some sort of mental disorder or drug addiction. A boy or girl struggles in school and immediately labeled with ADD/ADHD? Why is this happening?
Labels are easy. Change is not. Writing another prescription is easy. Therapy is not. There is nothing inherently wrong with labels or taking medicine, but are we labeling and writing the correct prescription? Evidently not with suicide increasing as well as murders.
Could there be another reason? Look at what the Lord sends: curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him. (Deuteronomy 28:20).
Amazingly, God sends confusion. A confused person is a dangerous person. When armies came against King Jehosophat in the Bible, God gave them confusion, so that the armies fought each other. These armies destroyed one another and King Jehosophat did not have to lift a finger. The reason the armies where confused is because they were ungodly. No ADD/ADHD! No DEPRESSION! No DISORDER! Their problem was SIN. Their problem was God sending the confusion.
There is a cure. Humble yourself before the Lord and he will heal the land. We often forget that SIN causes God’s judgment. The main reason is because his judgment is slow and progressive. An example would be sexually transmitted diseases. We know fornication, adultery and homosexuality is a SIN. STD’s are the judgment. The mortality rates of these diseases are long? It gives the victim plenty of time to change. Man has come up with some cures for some and medication for others. Unfortunately, this only fuels SIN. The cute commercial that comes on with an attractive girl with Gonorrhea leaves you feeling like its no big deal and you continue living the same. What happens? AID’s becomes an epidemic and 820,000 people in the US get new gonorrhea infections. This is just one example of many.
Take Home Message
Call on the Lord and refrain from sin. God protects and gives wisdom to those who ask and are obedient. Forsake him and your life, one way or another, will come to ruin.

For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live! – Ezekiel 18:32
There should be no pleasure found in death. There should be no joy in the soul that descends into hell having not known the Lord.
We should rather focus on the living. Loving those who are hurting. Loving those who will miss the lost. We glory not in those who die.
We glory in those who come to Christ and live a life that is filled with loving their neighbor as themselves. We glory in the cross.
I was channel surfing and found a show called a 1000 WAYS TO DIE. Have you seen it? The show sounds morbid, but interestingly, many of the stories I found poetic in nature, because the ones dying were all premature deaths and the recipients were committing sins right before.
The first story was of a woman holding a kissing booth. She was selling kisses for charity. She was lining her pockets with the money, when suddenly a guy shows up she had dated before. Other guys got pecks, but she gives this familiar guy a real passionate kiss. Some of the peanut brittle he was eating goes down her throat and she dies. She was allergic to peanuts and her throat swelled up and killed her.
The second story was about a Teen Christian Bible Camp. These teens were around the campfire singing Amazing Grace when one girl thought it would be a good idea to help these Christians get in touch with God by spiking the food with ecstasy. Well, it worked and the excited teens desired one another and right before they got to it. One teen decided to put the fire out with her guitar and starts smashing the flame. Smoke shoots into the throat of the girl who spiked the food and she decides to wash it down with extremely hot water and the heat causes her esophagus to constrict and she dies.
The show had more stories, however, this is the last one I will share for my purposes. This man tows vehicles for a living and likes to cheat ladies out of their money. He also likes to peep under their skirts. This man decides to take a long peep under this girl’s skirt while hooking her car up and does it improperly. He does not realize that he hooked the hook to a loose rod instead of the tow hook under the vehicle. As he draws the vehicle up the rod snaps and the hook smacks him into the head killing him.
As I watched this show I thought about how God’s grace has kept me. How many things I had done and the Lord’s mercy that has sustained me. How many situations have we been in and God’s grace allowed moments that death, could have been our story, but was not. How many bad situations have we found ourselves in and been saved?
The other side of this story is the unknown. God’s judgment often comes at a time when least expected. This is why the Bible tells us to fear the Lord. “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him, which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Matt. 10:28). Let us keep in mind the brevity of life and recall how frail we are and choose to live righteously. After all, there is 1000 WAYS TO DIE.

When I ponder the role of parents, I realize the task of raising children in this world, full of information at ones fingertips, is no easy day. It is filled with unknowns at every corner. It is filled with danger, … Continue reading
