Running From Bad News

Jesus
Jesus said to another man, “Follow Me.” “Lord,” the man replied, “first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. You, however, go and proclaim the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:59-60). Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). These are statements that build the foundation for the cost of being a Christian in a fallen world.

There are Christians who run from bad news to their own peril and the peril of others. They are like those who hide their head in the sand or their talent and think that God is going to be pleased, but they are mistaken. Many will hear depart from me you worker of iniquity for not working at all in God’s kingdom. They bury their talent and when the master comes for the harvest he finds them lacking.

The terror of men and the high intensity of evil will cause your flesh to fold, but through God’s Spirit within you, you have the strength to overcome the challenges that would otherwise limit you. The evil spirit of limitation is empowered by your fear to confront bad news. Your cowardice is his elevation, but if you look deep into the love of God, you will find a power that will blow all evil spirits out of the water.

By design those who have God’s Spirit overcome evil with good. God never sanctioned the believer to run, but serve with gladness knowing that your home is in heaven. Fear is a designation that you are lacking in faith and your heart is not entirely above, but beneath.

Before the test of Lot’s wife comes, you better sure up your relationship with Jesus and stop running from bad news and make good news by telling your story of how God as empowered your life by his grace, mercy, and truth.

Make A Difference – Fall In Love

Make A Difference

You have seen several movies where the man saves the princess against all odds. His love for the damsel in distress carries him through the warlords and the demons. The serpents and sea creatures are unable to fight against the heart that beats for his damsel. He does not fear the evil army hoards and is willing to fall upon his sword to save his woman. He loves her and that is enough to keep him plowing forward.

How much do you love the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you willing to lay your life down like Paul, Stephen, John, Peter, and so many others for the cross? If fear consumes you. It is because you have not been perfected in love. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love (1 John 4:18). Did not God say that he would never leave you or forsake you? Is he a man that he should lie? Then make a difference. Shine your light before men and do not hide who you are in Christ. Do not be afraid for the Lord Jesus is your strength and will not allow you to be tempted above that which you are able, but will give you a way to escape. Trust him. We are left here by the request of the Master. Jesus said, “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:15-17).
