Growing Your Capacity For Love

The very first command God gives is to love him. It is not by mistake that this is the very first command. We understand that things that are listed first are of the most importance. Step 1 will always be more important then step 2. Step 1 turn your computer on. Step 2 open powerpoint. You can’t get to step 2 until you accomplish step 1.

God’s capacity for love is larger than we can imagine. Picture this: A huge heart full of God’s love and your little heart full of love. Now you choose where you will send this love or whether you send it at all. Selfish people don’t love anyone but themselves. It remains within their heart. You have chosen to give your love to God. You heard that He sent His only Son to die for you, so that you could access heaven and you decided that you will send Him your love. Now your heart doors open and love comes streaming out into the third heaven, where Christ is at the right hand of the Father. It enters God’s heart. It makes God happy and He returns a greater stream to enter your heart. The stream is so large that your heart must grow to receive it.

It is at this moment when your heart is open that Satan wages an attack. That is why you must guard your heart when you open the door for love. Selfish people have their heart locked up, so its guarded, but only God’s love can make it grow, so it shrivels and the person dies in depression. A closed heart neither gives or receives love.

Now, you must remember the love you send God is step 1. Step 2 is God sending a stream of love to you that enlarges your heart. His pure love gives you the capacity to love your enemies. That is why Stephen full of the Holy Ghost can ask God to forgive the people stoning him. It is not a natural love. Its empowered by God’s love.

Your capacity for love is in direct correlation to you choosing to send God your love. Remember this, “he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13). This means keep the love stream cycle going. Never stop sending God your love.
