There are many things that may be accomplished in the allotted time given to man, but is everything convenient or essential? Are you the type of person that makes mandatory things that are actually not? For example, I must clean the entire house today? Really? Why? Am I saying cleaning is wrong, of course not, but is it mandatory today or have you made it that way?
Your children play several sports in school, that you make mandatory, is it? Did you place upon your own back this requirement or burden? What is essential in life? What is the determining factor? How come God’s burden is light and his yoke is easy (Matt. 11:30)? The reason: God will direct your path for you, if you would only acknowledge him (Prov. 3:5-6).
Some of the things you do today are not God’s requirements. They are your own. They may be motivated by envy of your neighbor. Pride or selfish ambition may be the engine pushing you too hard. The enemy would love for you to run yourself useless for the Kingdom of God. He knows by seeking the Kingdom that God automatically adds to your life. Things you did not have to be deceptive about to receive.
So are you trying too hard to make this life your resting place? Moving about because of society’s demands for what is hip and happening? Trying to be American Idol, instead of putting down idolatry and serve Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith.
Remember, many are called, but few are chosen (Matt. 22:14). Ask yourself, why are few chosen?
